In all major cities around the world you will find Chinatowns. The Hague has its own Chinatown in the heart of the city centre. This area stretches from Amsterdam Veerkade, the Wagenstraat till the Gedempte Burgwal.
The Hague Chinatown Association has been promoting Chinatown very well. Thus we celebrated the previous years successfully several Chinese culture days (Mid Autumn Festival and the Chinese New Year), a Chinese market have come, splendid Chinese gates will soon mark this part of town and we invited the world famous Shanghai Peking-Opera troupe to perform for a sold out Lucent Dance Theatre. On the initiative of the municipality The Hague and the local Chinese entrepreneurs The Hague Association was founded in 2002. Our objectives are:
- Organise activities and events to promote our Chinatown;
- Gain support under the Chinese community in The Hague for development of Chinatown;
- Advising on the further development of Chinatown;
- Maintain contact with all parties that are involved with the further development of Chinatown (such as the municipality, companies, ministries, banks, education institutions, embassies etc.);
More and more ventures within and outside Chinatown support the objectives of the Association by becoming Friend of Chinatown. Friends of Chinatown act as advisory consultants for the governing board and support the Association financially.
